In the smaller ìone chipî DLPís, as well as the
ultra portable LCDís, the lamps typically last around
1000 hours. There are a few models that will last
longer, available. In the ì3 chipî ultra high
brightness DLPís, also known as ìlight valvesî,
the lamp power supplies are typically variable, enabling
lamp hours from 1000 hrs to as much as 4000 hrs
depending on make and model. The DILAís tend to follow
this formula as well, but their starting lamp costs are
much higher than the little DLPís and LCDís. The
DILAís are around $900 to replace, while the
ultra-portable DLP/LCDís run around $450 on average.
The super-brights start at about $1000 and can top $5000
(yes, thatís 5 bucks an hour to watch TV ñ and you
thought the cinemas were expensive?). Fortunately, few
of us have the need for one of these mega-bright
projectors. |
